SINGAPORE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA: A DANGEROUS LIAISON

Brothers pair up for this evocative concert: twin cellists Ng Pei-Jee and Ng Pei-Sian (SSO's principal cellist) will take the spotlight in prominent Finnish composer Kalevi Aho's Concerto For Two Cellos And Orchestra. Not to be outdone, American horn player Jamie Hersch will be performing A Sheltered Corner for horn and orchestra by his composer brother Michael. Under the baton of Shui Lan, this concert will open with Singapore composer Chen Zhangyi's Rain Tree. The 30-year-old received the 2014 Young Artist Award.

M1 SINGAPORE FRINGE FESTIVAL

The popular fringe festival returns under the helm of a new artistic director, Sean Tobin. This year's theme is Art & Loss. This weekend's events are an eclectic spread, including multimedia artist Loo Zihan's With/Out, a painstaking recreation of the late Paddy Chew's iconic monologue, a record of his experience as the first person in Singapore to publicly discuss his HIV-positive status. There are also plenty of exhibitions as part of the fringe festival, including Singaporean Nguan's haunting images of Singapore in How Loneliness Goes and performing arts photographer Tan Ngiap Heng's intimate personal exhibition, Fade..., a meditation on memories and loss. Viewers are encouraged to take away images as keepsakes.

THE ART OF LIU KUOSUNG

Prominent Chinese artist Liu Kuosung, 82, will be giving a talk in conjunction with the opening of his exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Arts (MoCA@Loewen). Known for his blend of contemporary and traditional painting techniques, and regarded as an important practitioner of modernist Chinese painting, he will discuss developments in contemporary Chinese ink painting, his own artistic journey and the future of his practice. More than 80 of his recent artworks will also be on display till March 1.

WORLD PRESS PHOTO EXHIBITION SINGAPORE

Singapore is hosting the 57th World Press Photo exhibition this year, which is presented by The Straits Times. It features 151 award-winning photos by 53 photographers from 25 countries. The World Press Photo organisation is known for holding the world's most prestigious annual competition in journalistic photography, from portraits of daily life and nature to breathless breaking news photos. One can expect gripping images that capture the state of humanity from all around the globe, from disasters to hope.
