CLOUD MESSENGER BY INTERCULTURAL THEATRE INSTITUTE

The graduating cohort of the Intercultural Theatre Institute presents Cloud Messenger, a multi-lingual, multi-disciplinary collaboration between students and local artists. Written by Haresh Sharma and directed by Alvin Tan, the play is based on the Megha Duta, a Sanskrit poem by Kalidasa. The original lyric poem tells of a nature spirit who, after being exiled for a year, convinces a cloud to convey a message to his wife.

It will also feature work from artists Bani Haykal, Brian Gothong Tan, Jaclyn Tan, Steve Kwek and design collective Neon Tights.

INFINITE LOVE - HENG EOW LIN OIL PAINTING EXHIBITION

Nanman Art presents Infinite Love, Malaysian artist Heng Eow Lin's third solo oil painting exhibition in Singapore after his shows here in 1977 and 1988.

The pieces in this show are all his recent works which revolve around different kinds of love, be it motherly love or a love of nature.

Heng was trained at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts under the guidance of artists such as Lim Yew Kuan and Georgette Chen and his works have been shown in England, France and Switzerland.

THE SING JAZZ POP-UP CLUB AT THE ARTS HOUSE

Join some of the best jazz acts in Singapore over two weekends at The Arts House.

Five-man band The Steve McQueens will be performing tonight with their groove-based hybrid of tight arrangements and freely improvised sounds. The group, who recently released their debut album Einstein Moments, comprise vocalist Eugenia Yip, saxophonist Fabian Lim, keyboardist Joshua Wan, bassist Jase Sng and drummer Aaron James Lee.

Tomorrow, seven-piece jazz band Tropic Green will take centre stage, led by composer and keyboardist Susan Harmer. She will be joined by a horn quartet, accompanied by a three-piece rhythm section, whose members are from all around the world.

LAUNCH OF LOKAL HEROES FIGURINES

Communication design agency Splash Productions has collaborated with street art collective The Terror Troopers and toymakers Mighty Jaxx to create a series of five figurines which pay tribute to characters that are seen around Singapore.

Familiar faces such as karang guni men, construction workers and security guards will be immortalised in 7cm tall, full resin figurines.

Each figurine retails for $19.90, and only 300 of each will be produced. Thecollection will be launched tonight. During the launch, the figurines can be pre-ordered for $76 for five, instead of the usual $99.50. There will also be a showcase of works by nine local artists, such as Wanton Doodle and Lee Xin Li, in which they re-interpret the characters in the series.
