CHINA MANIA! THE GLOBAL PASSION FOR PORCELAIN, 800-1900

Dewy, delicate and oh-so-difficult to duplicate, Chinese porcelain is the star of a new show at the Asian Civilisations Museum.

The precious white ceramic was coveted around the world as early as the ninth century with royalty, nobility and the socially aspirational all yearning to own a piece, or more, of china.

The more than 180 sumptuous artefacts, including this incense burner, on display tell the story of the international trade spurred by made-in-China porcelain and how it, in turn, fired up creativity in ceramic art and crafts.

Where: Asian Civilisations Museum, 1 Empress Place MRT: Raffles Place When: Till Dec 14, 10am - 7pm (Sat - Thu), 10am - 9pm (Fri) Admission: Free for citizens, permanent residents & children aged six & below; $8 (adult), $4 (student & senior aged 60 & above)

GIVE ME YOUR BLOOD AND I WILL GIVE YOU FREEDOM

Indian performance artist Nikhil Chopra draws on the anguish and fervour of India's fight for freedom against colonial rule in 1934 in this 50-hour durational performance.

A special commission by the Singapore International Festival of Arts, the performance will blend theatre with visual art as he maps out landscapes in black ink on a white canvas as an expression of the grim, bloody battle for liberation.

This live installation is best experienced through repeated visits to the show over the 50 hours.

Where: 72-13 Mohamed Sultan Road MRT: Clarke Quay When: Today, 7pm, till Sun, 9pm Admission: $35 from Sistic
