NEW OFFBEAT TOURS

Tour company Walk Japan, which specialises in off-the-beaten-track tours of Japan, has added two new itineraries.

One is a fully-guided, six-day tour of Oita Prefecture in Kyushu in western Japan.

Guests will walk and cycle past farm houses and fields and through forested valleys before arriving in Beppu, a seaside town known for its onsen and hot springs. The tour starts at 316,000 yen (S$4,230) a person.

Those willing to brave the cold can venture north to join the Hokkaido Snow Tour, an eight-day, seven-night fully-guided snowshoe exploration of one of Japan's snowiest regions.

The tour will begin in the fishing port of Kushiro before travellers traverse frozen seas and the remotest of landscapes.

The trip will end in Utoro, a small onsen town on the coast of the Shiretoko Peninsula. The tour starts from 498,000 yen a person.

Prices include accommodation, equipment rental, ground transportation and most meals.

The luxury hotel is home to Ona, a fine-dining restaurant specialising in Bolivian produce.

It boasts a rooftop with an infinity pool and the +591 Bar where guests can sip locally inspired cocktails created by award-winning mixologist David Romero, while enjoying dramatic views of the city.

Original, specially commissioned pieces by Bolivia's most important living artist and photographer Gaston Ugalde decorate the hotel's public areas, hallways and 53 guest rooms.

Inside the rooms, the decor of indigenous wood, local stone and woven alpaca are complemented by floor-to-ceiling bay windows.

To help the country's less fortunate, the hotel will donate a portion of the room rate to charity when guests book directly with it.
