MATTHEW BOURNE'S SWAN LAKE
This year's da:ns festival opens with a bang with this award- winning adaptation of the classic ballet Swan Lake by British choreographer Matthew Bourne. The contemporary take is best known for replacing the ensemble of traditionally female swans with male ones, adding an edgy menace to the mix. The ballet traces the story of a young crown prince, his controlling mother and his desire to break free. Blending dance, mime and bursts of tragedy and comedy, this version has gathered more than 30 awards.

HAIRY MACLARY AND FRIENDS
Go on a romp with the lovable dog Hairy Maclary and his animal friends, in this stage production adapted from the series of children's books by New Zealand author Lynley Dodd. His buddies include the dachshund Schnitzel von Krumm and the dalmatian Bottomley Potts. But they must beware, because tough tomcat Scarface Claw is lurking around. With live music, singing and colourful costumes, this one-hour show is recommended for kids aged two and up.

SINGAPORE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA PRESENTS: METAMORPHOSEN
The orchestra will take on Richard Strauss' melancholic and elegaic Metamorphosen, scored for 10 violins, five violas, five cellos and three double basses. This beautiful work was first performed in 1946. It is believed to be the German composer's response of deep mourning for his country's destruction during the war and is rich with nostalgia and despair. Earlier in the evening, Singapore violinist Kam Ning and pianist Albert Tiu will perform Mendelssohn's Double Concerto For Violin And Piano In D Minor, and the orchestra will also present Beethoven's Leonore Overture under the baton of principal conductor Okko Kamu.

AGNES B.'S PUNK+ PHOTO EXHIBITION
Best known for her fly-on-the-wall pictures of the 1980s punk rock movement, photographer Sheila Rock is showing a selection of her work here as part of French fashion label agnes b.'s 10th anniversary celebrations in Singapore.
They feature intimate moments with iconic bands such as The Clash, The Sex Pistols and Generation X, as well as lead singers Siouxsie Sioux and John Lydon. A total of 28 photographs will be on sale, with prices ranging between $900 and $4,700. There will be an accompanying pop-up store with a variety of books, vinyl records and accessories relating to punk culture.
