NATIONAL THEATRE LIVE AT THE ESPLANADE: FRANKENSTEIN (NC16)

Tickets have been snapped up for this highly popular film series at the Esplanade, where blockbuster theatre productions by London's National Theatre have been captured on camera for a larger audience. But you can try your luck for this late-night screening of Frankenstein, featuring Benedict Cumberbatch (of TV series Sherlock fame) as the monstrous Creature and Jonny Lee Miller (who also plays the revered detective in the TV series Elementary) as the scientist Victor Frankenstein. Watch this classic gothic tale come to life as the created tracks down his creator for a chilling showdown.

THE O.P.E.N.

The public-engagement initiative of the Singapore International Festival of Arts kicked off yesterday. With a plethora of films, workshops and performance demonstrations lined up, it aims to introduce the public to the various artists and themes of the main festival season. Highlights this weekend include a performance by American dancer Richard Move channelling Martha Graham, an arresting portraiture exhibition by South African photographer Zanele Muholi and brunches discussing the legacies of science and apartheid.

The annual piano festival comes of age this year and, for its 21st edition, it will present audiences with a smorgasbord of favourites, from Bach and Beethoven to Rachmaninov and Ravel. THE MARK BEHIND THE EAR BY SHORT ONE PLAYER (TAIWAN)

As part of the M1 Chinese Theatre Festival organised by The Theatre Practice, Taiwanese theatre practitioner Marley Ho will present an intimate and experimental one-woman performance. This semi-autobiographical piece is inspired by her personal history as a member of an immigrant family to Taiwan, looking back at her grandparents' journey there with the Nationalist Army and her parents' experience of historical changes in their new home.
