You may laugh at talk show host Jimmy Kimmel's gags and skits, but beware - he's the most dangerous celebrity of 2014, according to security technology company McAfee.

Kimmel is top of its latest list of the most dangerous celebrities to search for online, having replaced actress Lily Collins as No. 1.

Searching for Kimmel online gives you a 19.38 per cent, or one-in-five, chance of hitting a website loaded with threats like spyware, viruses or other malware.

Musicians dominate the rest of the top 10, with Armin van Buuren, Ciara, Flo Rida, Bruce Springsteen, Blake Shelton, Britney Spears, Jon Bon Jovi and Christina Aguilera featuring. Comedian Chelsea Handler came in at No. 9.

McAfee said in a press release that cybercriminals look to take advantage of the massive interest in celebrities like Kimmel to lure people to malicious sites, where their personal information and passwords could be stolen.

Kimmel has seen several of his YouTube videos, usually taken from episodes of his show, go viral, including a staged video of a woman's twerking attempt gone awry and a mini-reunion of the cast from popular sitcom Friends.

How should you protect yourself? Go only to official websites of content producers and never download anything from a site that you don't trust, says McAfee.
