Muppets may be back on television, with Big Bang Theory's Bill Prady as writer

It's time to play the music and light the lights: The Muppets are coming back, reports said.

US TV network ABC is planning a revival, to be helmed by Bill Prady, the co-creator of the award-winning comedy series The Big Bang Theory.

He will be collaborating with Bob Kushnell, who was the executive producer on 1990s sitcom 3rd Rock From The Sun. The Muppet Studios, owned by Disney, is also a producer.

Prady got his start working with Muppets creator Jim Henson on the Muppet Show in 1982.

He is now writing a pilot presentation to advertisers that sources say will include a cast of familiar characters, like Kermit the Frog, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo and Animal.

Sources told The Hollywood Reporter that the pilot will revolve around the Muppets' attempts to get Miss Piggy on board the revived show, but she is refusing to sign on as her relationship with Kermit is on the rocks.

The Muppet Show, a comedy-variety show ran on television from 1976 to 1981.

The franchise also includes a number of movies, such as the recent Muppets Most Wanted (2014), sequel to The Muppets (2011).
