Hong Kong - The smile has vanished from Kim Soo Hyun's face as he continued on his promotional stops in Asia while his country grapples with a sunken ferry disaster that has left 139 people dead and 163 still missing.

At a Hong Kong event to promote a cosmetics brand yesterday, the South Korean star was expressionless throughout, only holding up his hand to greet fans.

Perhaps he was in grief over the ferry tragedy, Apple Daily said.

The My Love From The Star heart-throb cracked a tiny smile only when talking about shooting The Thieves in Hong Kong in 2011.

He had flown in from Vietnam where he had also maintained a glum appearance at a press conference.

While stars such as Song Seung Heon have cut their promotional activities in South Korea, others like Kim, Gianna Jun and Lee Min Ho have continued to honour their overseas commitments.

Both Kim and Lee have been criticised by Korean netizens for doing so, and some have asked them to apologise.
