I refer to Mr James Lee's letter, "South Beach Not So Hot" (Dec 5, Life Mailbag), where he wrote that South Beach "is a huge disappointment" and that Natasha Ann Zachariah's two features on the property "give City Developments Limited more credit than it deserves".
South Beach is Singapore's first mixed-use development that fuses ecological architecture and edgy design with heritage. Its integration with conserved buildings has won praise from Singaporeans and international designers.
An outstanding example of green architecture, it won two Green Mark Platinum Awards from Singapore's Building and Construction Authority .
With its central location in the civic district, close to the Central Business District and a stone's throw away from the Esplanade and City Hall MRT stations, it is poised to be one of Singapore's iconic developments.
For these reasons, we believe that the features in The Straits Times on South Beach were justified. Mr Lee's letter on South Beach offers negative comments, but no elaboration.
