Mexican celebrity Thalia has revealed that the Aug 12 photo she posted on her Instagram account - in which she poses with a jar of what she claimed to be her ribs - was all an elaborate joke.

The 42-year-old singer, whose full name is Ariadna Thalia Sodi Miranda, has ignited debate over her slim waistline in recent years.

Rumours that her svelte figure was the result of rib surgery resurfaced again on August 5 after a host on Philippine talkshow Aquino And Abunda Tonight brought up the topic. The singer has a strong following in the Philippines.

Barely a week later, she put up a photo with the caption: "To all my Fillipino fans, here is the proof... I love My Famous Ribs, I kept them with me all these years... And the Saga continues."

It triggered a raft of media reports, but as it turns out, people probably shouldn't have taken it too seriously.

Thalia swiftly followed up her original post with one with the word 'Gotcha" in red photoshopped over a photo of her eating regular ribs earlier today.

Mystery solved, although Thalia has yet to officially confirm if she underwent the highly controversial surgery.

According to the Plastic Surgery Portal, rib removal is an "extreme" plastic surgery procedure that involves the removal of a patient's bottommost ribs - namely, the 12th and 11th rib. In some cases, the 10th rib is removed as well.
