Santa’s spirit of giving

I refer to the story We Believe In Santa... And We Don't (Life, Dec 24), which compiled what some children in Singapore, aged four to 12, had to say about Santa Claus' existence.

I have always told my two young children the truth about Santa - that he is Saint Nicholas, the fourth-century Christian bishop of Myra, who was famous for giving to those in need.

Instead of fixating on what Santa might bring them, I encourage my children to think about what they can make for their family and friends.

Even pre-schoolers can give simple things with great love.
