Neil Gaiman and Amanda Palmer announce pregnancy on social media

NEW YORK - Bestselling British author Neil Gaiman and his wife, international recording artist Amanda Palmer, are expecting their first child together.

The couple announced the news on social media late on Wednesday. Palmer, who is three months pregnant, is due to give birth in September.

Gaiman took a photograph of Palmer cradling her baby bump, which she later posted to Instagram. She also tweeted: "guess what? I'm pregnant. due September. super special thanks to @neilhimself."

Gaiman, 54, is known for his hugely popular works straddling fantasy and science-fiction, including the Sandman comic book series, and novels such as American Gods and Coraline. Provocative American performer Palmer, 38, is half of the music duo The Dresden Dolls.

The couple also announced their marriage in 2011 on social media, where they currently have a Twitter following of over 3.2 million people combined.
