The Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) will be presenting a concert at the prestigious BBC Proms music festival for this first time this year.

The Straits Times reported in January that the orchestra was invited to the event, but the festival's full programme was only unveiled on April 24 at 10pm Singapore time.

The SSO will be playing on Sept 2 at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The orchestra will be conducted by their music director, Lan Shui, and the concert will feature German-born Swiss musician Andreas Haefliger on the piano.

They will be playing pieces from Glinka and Rachmaninov, as well as a commissioned work by Chinese-American composer Zhou Long.

The Proms are an annual eight-week classical music season organised by the British Broadcasting Corporation since 1927, and is one of the biggest classical events in the world. This year's season runs from July 18 to Sept 13.
