National Stadium braces itself for 30,000 One Direction fans

The new National Stadium has hosted several large-scale events since it opened last year - including Jay Chou's show last December - but the concert by boyband One Direction on March 11 is set to stand out.

Among the more than 30,000 fans expected to fill out the venue, many are believed to be quite young and could be ferried there by their parents. Hence the venue has come up with special plans for the day and even held a press briefing on Friday to disseminate the information.

SportsHub's senior director of corporate communications and stakeholder management, Mr Jose Raymond, tells Life!: "It is expected that a large number of the concertgoers will be under the age of 20 and will be mostly females, based on the group's global following. "As such, it is important for us to ensure that they have a positive experience at the Singapore Sports Hub."

For one thing, fans who have standing area tickets are reminded that overnight queues are not allowed at the stadium and the queues will officially start only at 11am at the designated areas.

The doors will open at 6pm and One Direction will start performing at 8pm. To reduce traffic problems, it is best for concertgoers to take public transport. But for parents and guardians who are planning to drive their kids to and from the show, there will be three special drop-off and pick-up points.
