LONDON - Mick Jagger has been blasted for taking up with a new woman, barely three months after the suicide of his lover of 13 years, L'Wren Scott.

The fashion designer's sister Jan Shane told the Daily Mirror that the Rolling Stones frontman was "grotesquely disrespectful".

In a photo published by The Sun a week ago, Melanie Hamrick, 27, a principal dancer with the American Ballet Theatre, was seen nuzzling Jagger on a hotel balcony in Zurich, Switzerland, on June 1.

They met on March 6 when the American dancer and fellow members of her ballet company were taken backstage during a Stones gig in Tokyo, Jagger's spokesman confirmed to The Mail On Sunday.

Eleven days later, Scott, 49, killed herself in her New York apartment on March 17.

"My sister deserves more respect. It hasn't even been three months since she died. I now believe that (Jagger) was a bigger part of her troubles than we knew about," said Shane, 53, on Monday from Utah.

"His life goes on as if nothing happened. He's still out with women, but a huge part of our family is missing," she added about the 70-year-old Jagger, who is twice married and has had a string of girlfriends.

After their Japan meeting, Jagger and Hamrick remained in touch. But after Scott's death, she "reached out and they met in New York as friends", a source told The Sun.

Reports said he and Hamrick, who lives in New York, spent two days together in Zurich, where the Stones were performing. Pictures taken on May 31 showed them relaxing on the Zurich hotel balcony, with one of Jagger, alone and shirtless.

A photo taken early afternoon on June 1 showed them looking dishevelled as he sat in a chair on the balcony. Wearing an over-sized T-shirt, she stood behind, leaning over and gently nuzzling the back of his head.

After the photos appeared, Shane told the Daily Mirror, "And people wonder why L'Wren was so depressed?"

After her death, Jagger said he struggled to understand how Scott, who willed him her entire personal estate of US$9 million (S$11 million), could have killed herself. He called her his "lover and best friend".
