The sixth Korean Night Festival concluded on Saturday evening with the Singapore preliminary round of the K-Pop World Festival, an international singing and dancing competition.

The competition, which took place at the Singapore Conference Hall, was organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea and the Daehan Education Centre.

Ten acts competed for two places in the next round of the competition, an online voting contest against semi-finalists from other countries. The top 15 entries will face off in Korea in October.

The winner of the dancing category was Destrict, a five-man ensemble comprising Muhammad Noor Irfan, 19, Ng Huiyan, 24, Lee Yan Qing, 19, Ng Joey, 19 and Muhammad Yusri bin Yusoff, 18.

They danced to a medley of four K-pop songs: Mirotic by TVXQ, I Am The Best by 2NE1, Warrior by B.A.P. and Overdose by EXO.

The winner of the vocal category was student Lerene Tong, 16, who sang Because I Love You by Wendy of S.M. Rookies.

The four judges of the competition were press & culture counsellor of the Korean Embassy Yoon Jaewoong, associate artistic director of Odyssey Dance Theater Lo Pui Sze, comedian and actress Patricia Mok and principal of Daehan Education Centre Harry Kwak Ha Rim.
