Seoul (The Korea Herald/Asia News Network) - Gangnam Style, the mega-hit single by South Korean rapper Psy, has surpassed the 2.1 billion mark in YouTube views two years after it was released, his management agency said Tuesday.
The video hit the 2.1 billion milestone on Monday and 2.101 billion views as of 8 a.m. Tuesday, YG Entertainment said.
The video, with its catchy tune and "horse dance" moves, was uploaded on July 15, 2012, and made the chubby singer Psy a global star. It spawned countless spoof videos.
Forbes has estimated that the video has made between US$8 milion (S$10 million) and US$10 million from YouTube advertising, iTunes sales, live shows and endorsements.
Psy, 37, performed his hit songs, including Gangnam Style, in collaboration with Chinese pianist Lang Lang at the opening show of the 2014 Incheon Asian Games last month.
He is now working on a new song, which he is expected to release soon, YG said.
