Divorce for Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel

LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel's wife has filed for divorce from the Los Angeles Philharmonic maestro after nine years of marriage, according to court documents.

Eloisa Maturen's divorce petition, filed on March 3 in LA Superior Court, cited irreconcilable differences for seeking the split from Dudamel.

The Venezuelan couple married on December 21, 2005 and have a 3-year-old son, Martin. Maturen, 35, is seeking physical custody of their child with visitation by Dudamel. She also is seeking spousal support.

Dudamel, 34, has been music director at the LA Philharmonic since 2009. He is a product of Venezuela's revered youth orchestra program El Sistema ("the system"), which primarily caters to poor students.

His LA contract runs until the 2018-19 season.
