Another dance party on a cruise ship to sail from Singapore on Jan 2, 2016

A new themed dance music festival vacation cruise is set to debut next year. Some 30 DJs - including a few prominent DJs in the global house and techno scene - are expected to spin during the five-day, four-night event.

Called Shipsomnia, the cruise ship will set sail from Singapore on Jan 2, 2016, and will take its passengers to Phuket and Langkawi, before making its way back here on Jan 6, 2016. The line-up of the DJs is expected to be announced in May.

The event will have a theme of a "high seas mythical adventure" - think a magical aquatic theme with a steampunk twist, say the organisers.

The festival is put together at a cost of US$2.5 million (S$3.4 million) by Singapore-based lifestyle and entertainment group Mad Fresh Events, headed by an international team of people whose experience includes creating festivals for brands such as Bacardi rum, and working on some of the biggest festivals in the world including Glastonbury Festival in Somerset, England.

Last year, another dance music festival on-board a cruise ship, It's The Ship, made its debut with more than 30 international and regional headlining acts, with more than 3,000 festival-goers attending the event.

"Many festival cruises follow the same format and it's easy to fall into the trap of yet another pirates or sailor theme. We want to bring it to a whole new level to the likes of Tomorrowland of the sea in terms of Shipsomnia's storyline," says Mad Fresh chief executive and Shipsomnia's co-founder Alessandra Maderni.

Tomorrowland is the largest annual electronic dance music festival in the world held in Belgium, and is known for its top-notch quality production and staging with elaborate props.

Shipsomnia's organisers are expecting a turn-out of around 2,400 festival-goers.

In the run-up to the event, Mad Fresh will be collaborating with some of the best clubs in Hong Kong, Bali, Jakarta, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai and Singapore for a series of Shipsomnia parties. In Singapore, the Shipsomnia club party will be held at basement club Kyo in Cecil Street.

Early reservations for Shipsomnia will start from May 23 to June 14 on www.shipsomnia.com . The prices, which excludes taxes and miscellaneous fees, start from US$699 a person.
