8,000 fans queue early for One Direction concert, some turn up in the wee hours of the morning

Thousands of fans of British boy band One Direction queued up for their concert at National Stadium on Wednesday night hours before the show was scheduled to start.

According to one security guard, there were as many as 8,000 fans by late morning.

Ms Nur Aziemah, 24, who just graduated from Singapore Polytechnic, was among the fans. She was there with a friend and both of them painted "1D" on their white T-shirts while waiting in the queue to get into the standing area of the concert.

Although they arrived there at midnight, they ended up behind other fans who reached the venue at 4am. National Stadium staff had said that the queue would start officially only at 11am.

Ms Aziemah, who has been listening to the boy band's songs since they were contestants in The X Factor, said: "The security guards had told us that there would be no queueing till 11am. Perhaps they should've been more organised. It's a bit frustrating that we're at the back."
