LOS ANGELES (AFP) - US actress Scarlett Johansson has given birth to a baby girl with her French fiance Romain Dauriac, her spokesman said on Thursday.

The 29-year-old, whose latest movie Lucy by director Luc Besson came out in July, was in good health with baby Rose, her first child.

"Mother and daughter are doing well," said a statement cited by US media, and confirmed to AFP by spokesman Marcel Pariseau.

The couple announced last September that they were engaged, two and a half years after the Avengers star split from first husband Ryan Reynolds.

Johansson has been nominated four times for Golden Globes, including for her breakout turn in Lost In Translation with Bill Murray in 2004 as well as in "Girl with a Pearl Earring" the same year.

In 2005 she was shortlisted for A Love Song For Bobby Long, followed by a nod for her role in Woody Allen's Match Point in 2006.

More recently she played Black Widow in 2012's record-breaking blockbuster "The Avengers," a role she is set to reprise in a sequel set for release in 2015.

She married Canadian actor Reynolds in 2008 but the couple announced their separation in 2010 and divorced the following year.

In addition to her stellar acting career, Johansson is known for her political activism, and appeared on stage at the Democratic National Convention in 2012 to call for the re-election of President Barack Obama.
