Hong Kong - Actor Jaycee Chan is reported to have finally met his lawyer in prison in Beijing on Thursday, one week after his drug arrest.
Hong Kong's Ming Pao Daily News, citing Taiwan's TVBS and a Facebook post by a person described as Chan's agent, said the actor's parents Jackie Chan and Lin Feng-jiao were in Hong Kong when he was arrested on Aug 14.
The parents were worried that the son had been kidnapped when they had no news of him for two days, said Ming Pao. As he is in criminal detention, they might have to wait at least 30 days to visit him, said the report.
Both Jaycee, 31, and his friend, actor Kai Ko, 23, tested positive for marijuana after they were picked up by the police at a foot spa. The police also found more than 100g of marijuana in Jaycee's home. Ko, who is in administrative detention, was allowed to meet his parents on Wednesday.
Ming Pao, quoting the Facebook post, said Jaycee was concerned about his parents' health and worried about the case's effect on his friends when he spoke to the lawyer. Reportedly, the lawyer wanted to fight for Jaycee's basic legal rights but he chose to give them up because he did not want his family to be misunderstood.
The writer of the Facebook post, which was republished on Chinese websites such as NetEase, said it was painful to see the stories about Jaycee betraying his friends when he had been "made a scapegoat".
Rumours have been rife that the police have their eyes on more celebrities, including Jaycee's friends.
Yesterday, the Beijing police denied a report that they had made a list of 120 stars from China, Hong and Taiwan, said NetEase.
On Thursday, actor Chen Bo-lin, a friend of Jaycee's, fended off rumours about his connection to the case. Chen's agent said the actor was "willing to cooperate in the relevant unit's investigation" to prove his innocence.
A fan meeting of Chen's that had been scheduled for today in Hefei, eastern China, was cancelled, said Ming Pao. Chen's agent explained that the event had to be cancelled as it was in danger of being upstaged by unrelated news and that the star was in no mood to smile.
