Pierce Brosnan.

A quartet of total strangers who want to commit suicide (played by Pierce Brosnan, Toni Collette, Imogen Poots and Aaron Paul) converge on the same high-rise rooftop.

"Excuse me, are you going to be long?" asks Suicidee No. 2 (Collette), who is waiting politely in line as Suicidee No. 1 (Brosnan) hogs the roof ledge.

There's nothing like a near-death experience to bring everybody so close to one another until they become the best of needy, clingy mates who sign a pact of four not to kill themselves until at least Valentine's Day.

Before long, they become a media sensation reinventing their combined tale of despair into a more inspiring, life-affirming one.

Oh, these existentially barmy Brits. There's always a black comedy in even the worst of times for them - like Liverpool throwing the league title away with a great song.

And since this movie is based on a 2005 novel by About A Boy's British author Nick Hornby, there's sure to be enlightenment and satisfaction like a terribly nice crumpet-and-tea combo fulfilled.

THEY CAME TOGETHER

Here's a funny flick that dares to reveal the "true meaning of love".

It means that Paul Rudd throws a football right into the face of Amy Poehler.

Both frolic happily among the leaves in New York's Central Park as they run past a corpse.

Poehler falls down the stairs cheerfully in neck-breaking fashion.

And they generally meet the kind of weirdos - Ed Helms, Jack McBrayer, an ethnic dude who almost falls out of a high-rise window - who populate corny romantic movies.

"The only difference is it's not a movie, it's our real life," says Poehler, grinning cheekily as the Joker's naughty sister.

Of course, this is a parody of rom-coms - kind of like 2006's lovesick sicko-psycho spoof Date Movie, but way less stupid as it is directed by the not-so-dumb David Wain (2008's Role Models).

Everything's a gag here because these two clowns live their chirpy love life like two butterflies trapped in a rom-com.

You know, I once tried being rom-com-cute like Steve Carell in The 40-Year-Old Virgin.

Nope, didn't work. On my way to becoming The 60-Year-Old Virgin.
