Hong Kong - Hong Kong director Wong Kar Wai has been bitten by the K-drama bug, it seems.

Apple Daily says he is preparing for his next film Ferryman, an urban romance which will possibly pair up Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Gianna Jun of the South Korean hit drama My Love From The Star.

Ferryman, about a young woman's infatuation with a married painter, is drawn from a short story from Chinese author Zhang Jiajia's collection I Belonged To You.

Jun is in talks with Wong and keen to work with him but there might be a scheduling problem, says the report. His shoot is set to start in September in Nanjing, whereas she has a shoot at the end of the year for the film Assassination, directed by Choi Dong Hoon, the director of her 2012 hit crime caper The Thieves.

Wong hopes to cast Jun as the young woman, Leung as the painter, Tang Wei as the painter's former wife and Takeshi Kaneshiro as Zhang, says the report.

A spokesman for Wong's Jet Tone Films confirms that the Ferryman shoot is scheduled for the second half of the year. She says the cast will be announced after the talks, adding: "I can only say all the actors in talks are quite important."
