LOS ANGELES (AFP) - US film and television actor Michael Jace pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to shooting dead his wife during an argument at their Los Angeles home.

The 51-year-old, famous for police drama The Shield and whose big-screen roles include a part in Forrest Gump, was detained last month after the death in the Hyde Park neighbourhood south of downtown Los Angeles.

If convicted he faces 50 years to life in jail for murder, the LA County District Attorney’s Office said.

The couple’s two sons, both under 10 years old, were taken into protective custody after the alleged killing on the night of May 19. Jace himself called 911 and was arrested in the early hours.
