For 10 years, Jennifer Aniston was the undisputed queen of the sitcom, her stint as the goofy-but-gorgeous Rachel on Friends (1994-2004) making her one of the biggest actresses on television.
When it ended, it made sense for her to do more of the same on the big screen - cue a succession of romantic comedies from The Break-Up (2006) and Marley & Me (2008) to Just Go With It (2011) and We're The Millers (2013).
None of these were particularly edgy or critically successful, but they cleaned up at the box office and reaffirmed her status as America's sweetheart.
Once in a while, though, Aniston likes to switch it up.
1. Friends (1994-2004)
Aniston was one of six unknowns who hit the jackpot when they were cast in this sitcom about the lives and loves of a group of young Manhattanites. She won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her performance as the adorably goofy Rachel, who somehow always managed to look perfectly turned out on her waitress' salary. By the end of the series, she and her co-stars were the highest-paid actors on TV, netting US$1 million each per episode.
2. The Good Girl (2002)
In her early cinematic forays, she scored the lead and her biggest critical success as a philandering discount-store cashier - the first time audiences had seen her looking dour and decidedly un-Rachel-like. Critics liked it, and she picked up a Best Female Lead nomination at the Independent Spirit Awards the following year.
3. Bruce Almighty (2003)
Aniston had only a supporting role in this movie about a man who gets to be God for a week. But it was a box-office smash with US$484 million earned worldwide, auguring well for her transition from sitcom to film star.
4. Marley & Me (2008)
With this and other romantic comedies, Aniston proved her unshakeable appeal as someone moviegoers like to watch fall in love. The combination of romance and a cute dog saw the tearjerker Marley & Me, co-starring Owen Wilson, earn US$242 million and generally positive reviews.
5. We're The Millers (2013)
In her 40s, Aniston has started having a bit of fun turning her good-girl image on its head. In 2011, she played a sex addict in Horrible Bosses, a hit comedy that grossed US$209 million. In last year's comedy We're The Millers, she was a stripper. The film was panned but went on to collect almost US$270 million - a success that contributed to Aniston's US$31 million payday this year which, according to Forbes magazine, makes her the third highest-paid actress of 2014.
