What is the function of the neutral safety switch?
A neutral safety switch is a mechanism which prevents the car engine from starting up when it is in gear.
It allows the engine to start only if the gearshift is in the Park or Neutral position.
This prevents the vehicle from moving off suddenly when the engine is turned on, protecting the driver and people near the car.
In some models, the neutral safety switch is also responsible for activating the reverse lights while the vehicle is reversing.
