The August issue of Torque shines the spotlight on four hatchbacks and a unique fastback.

Published by SPH Magazines, Singapore's leading motoring monthly puts the new Hyundai Ioniq on its cover. The fastback is the South Korean giant's first petrolelectric passenger car. Arriving about 20 years after Toyota's Prius, the Ioniq Hybrid boasts lithium-ion polymer batteries (more advanced than those found in the Prius) driving a 170Nm electric motor. The motor assists a new 1.6-litre, direct-injection, high-compression engine mated to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. Torque is first to test-drive the car.

Lined up in this month's group test are four European superminis - the Renault Clio, Peugeot 208, Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Polo. Find out which hatch offers the sweetest combination of performance and practicality.

There is also a twin test of the new Prius and old Prius.

Bundled with the August issue is a booklet that traces the history of Hyundai cars in Singapore.

Torque, out on newsstands now.
