Volkswagen Arteon to debut at Geneva Motor Show

Here is a sketch of the Volkswagen Arteon (below), a successor of the Volkswagen CC, which will be shown at the Geneva Motor Show in February.

Bigger and sleeker than the CC, the Arteon boasts three-dimensional headlights with LED elements.

Its top-hinged and wide-opening tailgate provides superior access to a huge boot.

Singapore's Koenigsegg agent secures dealership rights for other SEA countries

Singapore's Koenigsegg agent Motorway has secured dealership rights to the Swedish supercar marque for Myanmar, Brunei, Cambodia and Vietnam.

The Straits Times understands it is also close to clinching the franchise for another major South-east Asian market.


Porsche donates $18,000 to Make-A-Wish Foundation Singapore

Porsche Asia Pacific has donated $18,000 to Make- A-Wish Foundation Singapore, which grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

The donation will fund wish fulfilment for the foundation's beneficiaries this Christmas season.


GKN Driveline to expand electric drive lineup with BMW

GKN Driveline will supply BMW with its electric axle (eAxle) for a plug-in hybrid version of the BMW X1 for the Chinese market.

The system is part of the same scalable family of eAxles used in the plug-in hybrid BMW 2-series Active Tourer 225xe.

GKN also supplies its axle for the BMW i8 super hybrid.


Grab partners Tokyo Century to offer new driver services

Ride-hailing company Grab and financial services group Tokyo Century Corporation have entered into a partnership to collaborate on new leasing and rental car options for GrabCar drivers in Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam.

As part of the deal, Tokyo Century has made an investment in Grab.


New Ford Fiesta boasts advanced tech features

Ford's next generation Fiesta (pictured) shows off the new face of the American brand.

Touted as the world's most technologically advanced small car, it is the first Ford to have Pedestrian Detection that can help prevent collisions at night, and Active Park Assist with brake interventions to prevent low-speed bumps when parking hands-free.

It will have a premium Bang&Olufson hi-fi sysem, the latest in connectivity, "floating"high-definition touchscreens and a panoramic glass roof which can be opened.

The car will also boast a new suspension and Electronic Torque Vectoring Control.

Engines include a140bhp 1-litre turbo petrol and a 120bhp 1.5-litre turbodiesel, each mated to a new six-speed transmission. The new Fiesta will arrive in the middle of next year.


BMW, Daimler, Ford and Volkswagen to build EV charging network

BMW, Daimler, Ford and Volkswagen (with Audi and Porsche) have agreed to work on an ultra-fast,high-power charging station network for Europe.

The joint venture will deploy a high-voltage DC (direct current) charging network for electric vehicles, with power levels of up to350kW.

An initial batch of 400 stations will be built, with"thousands" more by 2020.

Based on the Combined Charging System standard, the stations will use a connector that is fully compatible with most current and future generations of electric vehicles.

Charging time is expected to evolve to be as convenient as refuelling at conventional petrol stations.


Hyundai Ioniq scores five-star EuroNcap rating

Hyundai's Ioniq compact has received the maximum five-star safety rating from the European New Car Assessment Programme (EuroNcap).

In the crash test, the Ioniq achieved top marks in the Adult Occupant,Child Occupant, Pedestrian and Safety Assist categories.

The car comes with Autonomous Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist and Smart Cruise Control.
