Local actor Qi Yuwu says he is still digesting the news of his actress wife Joanne Peh's pregnancy one month after they found out about it.

But Qi, who will be a father for the first time, is not too worried about the "technical" aspects of taking care of a child, such as changing diapers and feeding.

He says: "Changing diapers shouldn't be too difficult. It's just a matter of learning the skill. Besides, I've done it for my roles when I was acting. Honestly, I think the challenging part of parenting is the mentality, where one has to be responsible for the kid."

And in that respect, the 37-year-old feels that one can never ever be fully prepared for parenthood.

"Just like our marriage, I feel that one can never been fully prepared for life events. We will learn along the way, we will improve along the way. Even now I'm still learning how to be a husband."

He and Peh, 31, discovered the good news last month while they were filming the historical film 1965. She has completed filming for 1965, and will not be taking up any acting projects. She will focus on her work as an ambassador to promote the arts with the National Gallery Singapore.

They are still working out where Peh will give birth, but it is likely to be in Singapore.

QI also reveals that the couple will be heading to his China hometown of Guangzhou next week and spending Chinese New Year there.
