Among the A-listers who turned up at the event at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday, Rihanna and Sarah Jessica Parker generated the most buzz online.

Singer Rihanna's majestic yellow robe - by Chinese couture designer Guo Pei - covered little despite blanketing the red carpet. Its giant train has inspired memes ranging from yummy pizza to the yellow brick road in The Wizard of Oz.

Parker's fiery Philip Treacy head dress, meanwhile, was compared to cartoon characters, movie villains and emojis.
