The global interest in all things handmade has hit the Little Red Dot. Some local crafters have quit their jobs to turn what started as hobbies into small businesses, while others soldier on with their passion in their backyards or kitchens after work. Here are three whose creative wares have found a following:

Jewellery-maker Carolyn Kan was a former advertising executive who found her calling after an apprenticeship at a silversmith's shop in Florence, Italy. Her jewellery label Carrie K. now sells here and in seven other countries including Saudi Arabia, Japan and the United States, as well as online on her website (www.carriekrocks.com). Here she shows how she makes one of her necklaces:

Ms Jacqueline Goh's craft business, The Fingersmith Letterpress (thefingersmithletterpress.com), does letterpress printing on cards and paper. Her equipment includes a one-tonne Heidelberg press dating back to the 1950s, and she sells her hand-printed postcards on online craft marketplace Etsy and a few local stores. Here she demonstrates her craft:

Mr Joey Gan quit his job as a conservation officer to start GSH Conserves, a food label selling homemade jams and spreads. He makes his jams using tropical fruit and sells them via a handful of local cafes and retailers, as well as online stores Naiise (www.naiise.com) and HipVan (www.hipvan.com).
