Nepalese-American designer Prabal Gurung brought a glimpse of the Himalayas to Singapore last night.

More than 30 years after leaving Singapore, where he was born, the designer returned for the first time to open the Audi Fashion Festival. He showcased his fall 2014 collection, which was inspired by the Mustang region in Nepal, to a 650-strong crowd at the Ngee Ann City Civic Centre.

The annual fashion extravaganza, which is now in its sixth year, is on till Sunday. Four local designers will also stage their solo shows.

The festival will close with the Oscar de la Renta showcase on Sunday evening. The veteran de la Renta was supposed to be in town for the event, but has cancelled his trip due to "unforeseen personal reasons".
