SINGAPORE - Local celebrity couple Joanne Peh and Qi Yuwu are expecting their first child, MediaCorp said in a statement on Jan 28.

The parents-to-be waited until the "safe period" to share their news and thanked their well-wishers and fans for their care and concern, according to the statement

Peh said: "Thank you, thank you. I am in good health and we both look forward to welcoming the new addition to our family."

The couple got hitched on Sept 9 last year, after dating for a year. They registered their marriage at Movenpick Heritage Hotel, and only 39 guests were present to witness their matrimony, including 11 of the groom's friends and relatives from China, Lianhe Zaobao reported then.

No other MediaCorp actors, managers and producers attended the ceremony of the Channel 8 stars. The only entertainment figure present was movie producer Daniel Yun, said the report.

The couple released a confirmation of their wedding through Yun after hairstylist David Gan essentially broke the news by posting photos of the ceremony on Instagram. Yun dispelled talk that Peh might be pregnant. He said the couple chose to marry on Sept 9 because the numbers symbolise a long-lasting relationship.

The wedding banquet is expected to be held this year.

The couple had been friends for more than 10 years before they began dating. They have said their chemistry changed around the time they were filming the 2012 police drama C.L.I.F. 2.
