After nine years of business, homegrown commercial dance club The Butter Factory at One Fullerton will be closing when its lease expires next March (2015).
The Butter Factory's co-founder and executive chairman Ms Tay Eu-yen said in a press release on Thursday evening that the group decided to close the club as it could not reach an agreement with landlord Sino Group over rent.
"With the end of our lease we decided to give The Butter Factory a break and are going to explore new concepts," Ms Tay said.
The group is exploring new venues to open a new club concept which will be 'radically different' from the current club concept. Currently, The Butter Factory spins commercial EDM, hip-hop, R&B and top 40 hits to club-goers in their 20s.
The club, occupying a space of 8,000 sq ft, is one of Singapore's oldest clubs after Zouk in Jiak Kim Street. Zouk is in its 23rd year of operations.
Other homegrown nightclubs which have closed and relaunched with new concepts recently include the former Club lounge Royal Room and nightclub Mink in Pan Pacific Singapore, operated by lifestyle group Massive Collective.
Both clubs closed a few months ago and later reopened as a upscale modern dining restaurant named Match and high-energy commercial dance club Bang Bang.
