Suddenly, the midriff is everywhere.
Those inches of the torso - preferably taut and toned - are showing up on the bodies of celebrities from Rihanna to Taylor Swift and Cara Delevingne.
At last week's Metropolitan Museum of Art's costume gala, singer Rihanna, in a Stella McCartney top; actress Anne Hathaway in a red Calvin Klein bustier; actress Emma Stone sporting a Thakoon ensemble; actress Imogen Poots in a Proenza bra-dress; and model Delevingne in a black halter, all bare midriff skin.
Singer Taylor Swift wore a J. Mendel crop top to the Academy of Country Music Awards last month and actress Mindy Kaling sported a Topshop number at PaleyFest 2014 in March.
Crop tops were also all over the spring runways, from Proenza Schouler and Dolce & Gabbana to more moderately priced lines like Tibi and Alice & Olivia. They are stocked several racks deep at Zara, H&M and Forever 21, reported the New York Times.
Skin is in, as these pictures show.
