Watch out Barbie. There is a doll out now that is set to take on the famous and flawless - but not normal - doll. It is so normal that it can be modified to have freckles, acne and even cellulite like an average 19-year-old woman.

The creator of Lammily Doll, Nickolay Lamm from the United States, fashioned his doll after real measurements from the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.

It all started with a question for him: "What would Barbie look like if she had the dimensions of an average woman?"

First modeling the doll on his computer, he decided to make it a toy doll when he received several requests for the "normal" Barbie.

He turned to crowdfunding site CrowdtiltOpen in March this year, raising US$501,000 (S$654,188), several times more than the US$95,000 he had expected. The Lammily doll, which carries the tagline "Average is beautiful" got more than 10,000 backers, and almost 20,000 pre-orders.

"The foundation of Lammily is built on being true to yourself in a world that pressures you to conform to standards," Mr Lamm, who is trained as a graphic designer, wrote on his blog.

The doll will make its debut on Nov 28. The exclusive first edition sells at US$25 (S$33) on the website.
