SINGAPORE - Annual design competition Singapore Stories, organised by the Textile and Fashion Federation (TaFF), returns with a new theme - "Re-Imagining History and Creating the Future". Tasked with making five looks for a runway show by October, the five finalists share what inspired their collections.

For her designs, Cara Chiang, 27, imagined what it was like for her great-grandparents - the founders of the company - to brave stormy seas when they were smuggled into Singapore on a boat decades ago. They had fled the Japanese Occupation in Shanghai to Singapore in search of a better life.
