We have a ritual every time we arrive in Singapore on vacation from North Carolina.
No matter how long the journey has been, no matter how short on sleep we are or instantly grimy the second we step out into the heat's cloying embrace, the unspoken agreement is: hawker centre first for breakfast (or some prata/nasi lemak joint for supper, if we've arrived at midnight) before even going home to my parents' to unpack.
