Tan Lip Seng is a prominent local photographer known worldwide for his slide and travel photography.

He picked up photography when he was 12 and even set up his own dark room, devoting a considerable amount of time and effort to master darkroom processing.

Tan's works show a high degree of artistic feeling combined with good technique, creating a mood known to hold viewers in awe.

He believes that a good photographer must master the basics and only when these techniques are second nature to the photographer will he be able to concentrate on the emotional aspects of the subject.

Tan was conferred the Cultural Medallion in 1985 in recognition of his outstanding achievements and contributions to the field of photography.
