In a series of tweets on Feb 18, Australian rapper and songwriter Iggy Azalea quit the world of Twitter.

The 24-year-old wrote to her four million followers: "I am taking some time away from social media. I need to be happy and it is too negative and draining".

She also said that the Internet is the ugliest reflection of mankind, and that her management will be running the account.

Here are five other celebrities who quit Twitter (or tried to).

1. Miley Cyrus

In 2009, singer Miley Cyrus left Twitter for her then-beau, Australian actor Liam Hemsworth. She wrote: "FYI Liam doesn't have a twitter and he wants ME to delete mine with good reason."

She returned to Twitter a short time later, and in 2013, split up with him.

2. Keira Knightley

The actress told Harper's Bazaar that she once secretly joined Twitter under a fake name. Her adventure lasted only 12 hours.

"It made me feel a little bit like being in a school playground and not being popular and standing on the sidelines kind of going, 'Argh'," she said.

3. Megan Fox

The actress broke Twitter's heart in January 2013, just one week after joining it.

"Love you guys but I will just never be that girl. Facebook is as much as I can handle. #I'mSorry," she wrote.

Her profile is still up, but nothing has been posted since Jan 9, 2013.

4. Demi Lovato

The singer took a Twitter break in January 2012, writing: "Twitter break. It's for the best actually. Who allows me to have this thing anyways?!!! I just get myself in trouble! Haha. Anyway... BYE!"

The break-up was not permanent, as she returned a few months later and wrote: "I love you guys SO MUCH... this support is UNBELIEVABLE!! I'm tearing up I'm so thankful..."

5. Jennifer Love Hewitt

The actress quit the social networking site in July 2013. She said she had had enough of Twitter's negativity.

She wrote: "I'm sad to say twitter is no longer for me. I have enjoyed all the kindness and love that came my way, as well as support. But this break is needed."

She is however back, but posts only once in a while.
