AUDITION

2017 National Piano And Violin Competition

The biennial competition helps identify and develop young musical talents by providing them with the opportunity to perform before established local and international adjudicators. The competition, which runs from Dec 2 to 10, comprises solo piano and violin categories. Participants compete in the following age categories: artist (aged 25 and below), senior (aged 21 and below), intermediate (aged 15 and below) and junior (aged 11 and below). Applications close on July 28 at 5pm.

Launch Of Living With Myths In Singapore

This book brings together essays from the presenters of the Living With Myths series of seminars, a project on exploring Singapore's past and future. The launch features a discussion of the book by a panel of academics and activists, followed by an audience Q&A. Some authors of the book's chapters will be present to take questions.

Sifas Mehfil Series: Apoorva Gokhale

This Hindustani classical vocal concert features Apoorva Gokhale,

the granddaughter of Hindustani vocalist and violinist Pandit Gajananbua Joshi. She is accompanied by Singaporeans Nabendu Bhattacharya on harmonium and Sachin Bhide on tabla.

The Philharmonic Orchestra's 15th Anniversary: The Complete Beethoven Symphonies (II)

Beethoven's Second Symphony was created at a time when the composer was expressing despondency about his increasing deafness in the Heiligenstadt Testament, a letter addressed to his brothers. The concert ends with Symphony No. 3, Eroica.

Hansel And Gretel

The fairy tale has inspired many adaptations for the stage. Among the most popular is German composer Engelbert Humperdinck's 1893 opera. This semi-staged concert by Orchestra of the Music Makers is directed by Edith Podesta and conducted by Chan Tze Law, with Darius Lim as chorus master.

Billboard Rockx III

The Nanyang Polytechnic Chinese Orchestra returns for the third edition of its Billboard Rockx series, exploring arrangements of hit songs from 1980s classic rock acts such as Aerosmith, AC/DC and Bon Jovi, as well as from today's artists such as Adele and Ariana Grande. The concert also features home-grown singers Alfred Sim and Tay Kewei.

Borderline - By T.H.E Dance Company & Muscle Mouth

Inspired by the complex work of visual artist David Altmed, New Zealand's Ross McCormack sculpts a multi-sensory vortex on stage with his theatrical and highly physical choreography, while Singapore's Kuik Swee Boon pushes the limits of the dancers in exploring the art of the fight. Voices Of The Amazon

This music and dance production follows the story of Beleza, a water spirit from the Amazon River, whose wish to cure her dying sister takes her deep into the Brazilian rainforest. There, she is faced with the realities of deforestation and the loss of essential medicinal plants.

Ghost Nets Of The Ocean

Artists from the Erub Arts group, hailing from Darnley Island in Australia's Torres Strait, have transformed abandoned fishing nets (or ghost nets) into an art installation featuring marine life, to provoke reflection on how humans are impacting the world's oceans. More than 80 sculptures of fish, turtles, squids, jellyfish and corals woven from ghost nets are showcased.

In The Garden
