VIDEO: TOP PICKS AT HOKKAIDO MARCHE

Last week, I ate my way across seven stalls at the new Hokkaido Marche Gourmet Hall at Orchard Central, which opened about three weeks ago.

#ICYMI, Internet-speak for in case you missed it, I recommended some items in the Food Picks column last Friday.

The Japanese food enclave showcases fare from Hokkaido, including a soba shop that was founded in 1889.

Things to try here include the miso ramen from Shirakaba Sansou, which has a bit of a spicy kick; and the smooth and creamy Bocca Hokkaido Milk Soft Serve Ice Cream from Dot Bar & Cafe.

RECIPES TO TRY

Chap goh meh, or the 15th day of Chinese New Year, falls on Friday this year.

Make a sweet dessert soup to celebrate the day and to mark a harmonious start to the Year of the Dog.

ST Food has picked up three recipes from Malaysian newspaper The Star.

How about a refreshing white ginseng soup or a pot of Pretty Pink Lady, made with roselle calyces, hawthorn fruit, lotus root and red dates?

You can also opt for a healthy herbal sweet soup with lily buds, red dates and candied mandarin peel.
