There will not be a need to have your fill of Hong Kong coffee shop-style cha chaan teng fare at Tsui Wah before heading back to Singapore - it will soon be available here.

The Jumbo Group, which is behind Jumbo Seafood restaurants and other chains including Ng Ah Sio Bak Kut Teh and Chui Huay Lim Teochew Cuisine, announced last Friday that its subsidiary, Jumbo F&B Services, has entered a joint venture agreement with Kang Wang Holdings, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tsui Wah Holdings, to expand into the Singapore market.

This will mark Tsui Wah's first foray into South-east Asia.

Tsui Wah, which has 70 outlets in Hong Kong, Macau and China, is well known for its Cantonese-style comfort fare, including crispy bread drizzled with condensed milk, fried noodles with sizzling king prawns and instant noodles with various toppings.

The brand was founded in 1967 in the Hong Kong neighbourhood of Mong Kok.

On bringing the Tsui Wah brand to Singapore, Mr Ang Kiam Meng, Jumbo's group chief executive and executive director, says: "This is part of our group's strategy to grow our network of restaurants and to further strengthen our foothold in Singapore.

"We intend to capitalise on the popularity and growth potential of the Hong Kong-style cha chaan teng market in Singapore to broaden our local customer base."
