Chill out at DW Workshop, located in a black-and-white colonial house near Rochester Mall, a stone's throw from Buona Vista MRT station.

The space - by Singapore-based design agency DW Communication - is not only for dining, but also for meetings or events for up to 130 people.

On weekdays, customise your own lunch bowl ($19, photo 1). Pick one main, three sides, one grain and one topping. Main options include pan-seared duck breast, sweet potato frittata and grilled ribeye.

For communal dining during dinner daily and weekend brunch (9.30am to 5.30pm), options include signature braised beef ($42); crackling pork belly ($36) with apple risotto; duck confit ($42); and braised lamb shoulder ($38). These are good for two people to share.

To complement the mains, side dishes available include Spanish goat cheese salad ($8); rock melon with Joselito ham ($18); and marinated vine tomatoes with basil and garlic ($12).

Other brunch options include crab salad croissant ($24); potato rosti ($21) with poached eggs; and soya granola ($8.90).

DW Workshop also serves cold-pressed juices, tea, as well as coffee ($9) brewed with the automated Poursteady, an automatic brewing apparatus to make pourover coffee.

2 FRATELLI - TRATTORIA AND PIZZERIA

Italian chef-brothers Enrico and Roberto Cerea of the three-Michelin-starred Da Vittorio restaurant in Lombardy, Italy, have opened a restaurant at Resorts World Sentosa.

The 164-seat Fratelli - which means "brothers" in Italian - features a pizzeria and a trattoria.

Highlights from the trattoria's menu include Raviolone di ricotta e spinaci, tuorlo d'uovo e tartufo nero ($36), which is raviolo filled with spinach and ricotta cheese, topped with an egg yolk, emmental cheese and black truffle shavings; and 12-hour slow-cooked Spanish suckling pig belly ($42), with grain mustard vinaigrette and Granny Smith apple spheres.

The pizzeria serves pizzas, pastas, antipasti and desserts. Dishes include Baccala (salted cod fish) pizza ($36, photo 2) topped with tomato sauce, mozzarella, potato mousse, and basil pesto sauce and Gnocchetti di patate alla Piemontese ($30), potato "Gnocchetti" in a garlic-scented butter emulsion, 20-month-aged Italian Parmigiano Reggiano DOP cheese espuma and vine tomato sauce.

Tasting menus are available from $88++ for a four-course meal at the trattoria. Set menus at the pizzeria are available at $30++ for a three-course lunch and $45++ for a four-course dinner.

3 SENG KEE THE BLACK SEED BY CHEF BENNY

Local chef Benny Se Teo, known for his popular Western restaurant chain Eighteen Chefs, has opened a modern kopitiam at Bugis Junction.

Think prawn paste chee cheong fun set ($4.30); devil's curry chicken bread bowl set ($7.20, photo 3); roast duck sandwich set ($4.60 or $7); chicken wing basmati lemak set ($5.20). All sets come with a choice of kopi, teh or pandan teh-o.

And instead of the usual bread used for the kopi and toast set, choose between ciabatta or foccacia. The toast set ($4.30 or $5) comes with kopi or teh, and two eggs.

The dishes are also available on the a la carte menu.

Some interesting drinks to check out include Bullet ($1.90 or $2.60), which is black coffee with a slice of butter; lychee ice-blend with red tea jelly ($3.80); and bandung chin chow ($2.90).

4 SQUE KITCHEN & ALEHOUSE

Busy executives at Mapletree Business City can now head to the second outlet of Sque Kitchen & Alehouse.

The bistro serves a range of salads, burgers, pizzas and pastas. Mains include the signature St. Louis pork ribs (photo 4), Sque pork knuckle and spring chicken.

On weekdays (11am to 3pm), three-course lunch sets are available. They are roasted spring chicken with mashed potato ($13.95+); slow-braised Oriental lamb shoulder with tomato pilaf rice ($16.95+); and pan-fried salmon fillet with mashed potato and grilled cauliflower ($19.95+). Each set comes with a soup or salad and a chocolate brownie.

For happy hour (11am to 8pm on weekday and all-day on Saturday), there is a one-for-one draught beer promotion.

5 KAY LEE ROAST MEAT JOINT

Well-known for its Guangzhou-style roast meats from its flagship outlet at Upper Paya Lebar Road, the popular Kay Lee has opened in the West, at the WCEGA Tower in Bukit Batok.

This is its seventh outlet - the brand has been expanding since electronics firm Aztech Group took over in November 2014. Its other branch locations include Ubi, Suntec City, Singtel Comcentre, Tanjong Katong and Bedok North.

The Bukit Batok branch serves its signature roast meats, and it costs from $4.50 for a plate of duck, roast pork or char siew rice while the three roast meat mix platter (photo 5) is from $24 to $44. The menu also has a selection of double-boiled soups ($4.50).
