"Satisfry" your fried chicken craving at Bird Bird, a Thai eatery opening on Tuesday in Ann Siang Road.

From its retro lighting to menu with intentional spelling mistakes, the "Palace of Thai Chicken" is by chef Bjorn Shen, owner of Middle Eastern restaurant Artichoke in Middle Road.

True to its name, the menu features dishes such as Bird Slayer Pancake ($22), coconut and corn pancake with fried chicken, fried egg and fish sauce caramel; basil duck tater tots ($22), which is spicy grapow duck, snake beans, fried egg and hash browns; gai tod ($25), southern-Thai fried chicken with caramelised chilli jam; and Waterfall Lamb ($28), lamb rib meat with Thai herbs, roasted rice, smoked chilli and cabbage.

Side dishes include Umami Corn ($14), BBQ corn with Sriracha, mayonnaise, shrimp floss and lime; and Mama Coleslow ($14) made with crunchy instant noodles, Thai herbs and century egg.

Desserts include Thai doughnuts ($10) with Thai kaya dip and Bird Bird Sundae ($8), which comprises coconut ice cream, palm sugar caramel, corn and fried chicken skin.

The drinks menu features Thai red milk tea slushie ($5) and Chiang Mai Mule cocktail ($15 a glass, $55 a jug) with ginger beer, lime, lemongrass, curry leaf and vodka.

2. JOYDEN TREASURES

The chain of Joyden restaurants continues to expand, with the latest addition of the 7,000 sq ft Joyden Treasures at Leisure Park Kallang.

Its other outlets are Joyden Seafood (West Coast) and Joyden Canton Kitchen in Hillview Rise.

The 210-seat Joyden Treasures serves dishes such as steamed red grouper in soy bean broth (market price) with straw mushrooms and black fungus; double-boiled seafood soup in whole old cucumber($14); and lobster noodles with ginger and spring onion (market price, photo 2). This dish features ee-fu noodles tossed in a flavourful made-from-scratch seafood broth with ginger and spring onions before being topped with chunks of fresh local lobster

Desserts include brown sugar ma-la-gao ($4.20), an old-school steamed cake eaten with coconut and sugar, and yam puree with pumpkin and gingko (from $16 or $6 a bowl).

From the company behind Uma Uma Ramen, Horse's Mouth bar and Kaiseki Yoshiyuki - all at Forum The Shopping Mall - comes the 70-seat Uma Uma Izakaya Restaurant & Bar at Millenia Walk.

Tuck into ramen all day, which includes Uma Uma Ramen ($14), spicy chasiu ramen ($16) and mazesoba ($14). For $18 (11.30am to 4pm, weekdays only), get a ramen set, with your choice of ramen, side dish and drink.

From 4pm onwards, the menu features yakitori and kushikatsu (deep-fried skewered meat). Skewers are priced between $2 and $5, with a minimum order of two sticks.

Enjoy bar bites such as aigamo (braised duck breast, $16), eihire ($10, stingray fin) and tonkatsu sandwich ($16).

Asahi Draft beer is going for $8++ daily.

4. OTAKU OASIS

The worlds of Japanese anime and ice-cream come together at Otaku Oasis, an ice-cream parlour in Kelantan Road, off Jalan Besar.

The Japanese word "otaku" refers to people who have obsessive interests, particularly in anime or manga. In this case, Otaku Oasis' owner Raymond Lim is a huge anime fan and the shop houses his collection.

Gelato and sorbets are made in-house and flavours are changed weekly. Flavours include Grand Marnier with fresh orange juice, satsumaimo (Japanese purple sweet potato, photo 4), espresso and After 8 mint, and 55.5 per cent chocolate. Prices start at $4.60 for a single scoop ($9.50 with waffle).

Drinks include affogato ($6.90), espresso ($3.90) and juice ($5.90).

5. RV CAFE

For classic Western favourites around the clock, head to the 10-day-old RV Cafe at Changi Airport.

The menu includes wagyu beef burger ($22), beef burritos ($15), herb-crusted salmon ($21), seafood aglio olio ($16) and carbonara ($15).

Riding on the trend for indulgent milkshakes, check out the over-the-top monster milkshakes ($12.90 each, choice of vanilla, strawberry, chocolate, coconut or avocado milkshake, photo 5). It's Freezy includes sliced avocado, chocolate stick, cream cracker, Oreo cookie, rainbow wafer, salted caramel sauce and chocolate sauce, while It's Crazy includes cereal, whipped cream and chocolate sauce.
