BEAUTY IN THE POT

Paradise Group's steamboat restaurant Beauty In The Pot has opened its newest and largest outlet at OneKM Mall in Tanjong Katong. This is also its second outlet at the mall.

Spanning more than 7,600 sq ft, the new 288-seat restaurant has private rooms and will have a children's playground as well.

It boasts an interior design that is different from its other outlets - a pink princess theme inspired by cherry blossoms. An exhaust system surrounding each pot lets diners enjoy the hotpot in a well-ventilated environment.

The new outlet offers several soup bases, such as the signature Beauty Collagen Broth (shark's cartilage soup), Spicy Nourishing Soup (pork bone soup), Herbal Drunken Chicken Broth and Cooling Coconut Broth. Other options are Longevity Wild Pine Mushroom Broth (vegetarian) and Vitamin C Tomato Sweet Corn Broth. The price of a single pot starts at $14++.

Beauty In The Pot, which also has an outlet at The Centrepoint, offers a variety of fresh ingredients ranging from meat and seafood to vegetables and noodles. All the meatballs, meat paste and dumplings are handmade.

There are also more than 20 condiments and sauces. Pay an additional $3.80++ to enjoy the condiments and a selection of fresh fruit.

Some must-try items include the signature Homemade Fish Tofu ($2++ a piece, above), made with yellowtail fish, soya bean and egg white. Handmade daily, Ebiko Prawn Paste ($18.80++) is shaped out of 100 per cent prawn meat. Other items include Fried Beancurd Skin ($4.90++/half, $9.80++/full) and Soft Bone Pork Meatballs ($5++ and $10++).

To celebrate its opening, the restaurant will be giving diners a pair of souvenir Beauty In The Pot chopsticks and $20 catering vouchers, while stocks last.

Male models will also be giving out pink roses to female guests at selected times.

ALITTLE TASHI

This laid-back 60-seat restaurant in Jalan Besar is divided into two areas - the Dining Room serves modern comfort food for sharing, while the Laundry Room offers a selection of sake, beer and wine alongside bar bites.

The restaurant serves global flavours that are anchored by Asian roots.

Menu highlights include the chargrilled garlic and fennel-spiced Pork Skewers with pineapple sauce ($16+); and Lion's Head ($16+), which features Shanghai-style braised pork meatballs and cabbage.

The Asian chimichurri sauce that accompanies the chargrilled Squid ($20+) is a remake of the Argentine salsa. Beef Short Ribs ($38+) come with cucumber pickles and skhug (pronounced "shroog"), a spicy Middle Eastern sauce made of chillies, coriander, cumin and garlic.

The restaurant also provides Bowls of Comfort, such as Tashi Rice Soup ($9+), a chazuke-like dish punctuated with bursts of briny salmon roe in master broth.

Alternatively, dunk freshly fried Chinese doughnuts into Hot Salty Soya Milk ($9+), transformed by a drizzle of Sichuan chilli oil.

For easy drinking, the house recommends the bone-dry, floral Anne Marie Cava ($65+ a bottle) from Spain or the fruity Beaujolais Nouveau Cuvee ($13+ a glass).

From the sake range, the Jyokigen Yamahai Junmai (720ml for $85+) stands out with its umami flavour and crisp finish.

Diners place their orders at the service counter, so there is no service charge.

Where: 39 Tyrwhitt Road

Open: 6pm to midnight (Tuesdays to Sundays); from March 3: all-day dining, Saturday Roast and Sunday brunch

MA CUISINE

Ma Cuisine is a new gastro wine bar in Craig Road offering more than 600 labels and a 3,000-bottle collection, paired with a selection of classic French fare.

Wine by the bottle starts at $65++, while the bill for a la carte food averages $70++ a person.

Guests are encouraged to pick their wines first and can count on co-owner Anthony Charmetant's wine knowledge to guide them.

Chef Mathieu Escoffier, the other owner, will recommend French classic fare and Burgundian specials for pairing.

Among the recommended wines is Meursault Les Casse Tetes 2015 Domaine Tessier ($132++), a white Burgundy with distinctive minerality that goes well with Le Jambon Persille ($27++), a housemade Burgundian jellied ham and parsley terrine.

Cotes du Rhone Khayyam 2015 Domaine Mas de Libian ($78++) balances out the intense savouriness of the anchovies from La Pissaladiere ($19++), caramelised onion tart with anchovies and olives.

Saint Joseph 2015 Domaine Pierre Gonon ($145++) has a depth and complexity that is excellent when accompanied with a classic dish of Le Pigeon ($38++), while Port White Colheita 1989 Barao de Vilar ($225++) can go with Fromages Affines ($32++ for 150g).

Where: 38 Craig Road
