LOS ANGELES (REUTERS) - Ice cream is taking a trip to the dark side.

This gothic-inspired charcoal soft serve in an inky-black waffle cone is taking social media by storm.

It's the creation of Los Angeles ice cream store Little Damage and gets its color from activated charcoal.

"It's awesome," said Tanya Luge, from Dallas, Texas. "My favourite colour is black. I only like dark colors so it matches my soul."

Artistically shot photographs of the frozen treat have been popping up all over social media, drawing customers from near and far to try the unique concoction.

Kevin Block, also from Dallas, said, "This is my first time being here and I think it's awesome. I love it. It's very unique. I've actually seen this on Instagram and I wanted to check it out and here we are."

"Well, it's all over social media," said Lindsay Whiting, from Florida. "So, of course, we were like, oh, Los Angeles has it, so we came here. I think we came, like, maybe an hour to come this way so we could get this."

Before taking a first bite, most customers whip out their phones for a photo-op, hoping to show-off the latest trend before it melts away.
