Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has gone into partnership with Marina Bay Sands and will be opening a restaurant at the integrated resort next year.

The Scotland-born chef runs about 25 restaurants around the world from New York to Doha, including his eponymous three-Michelin-starred restaurant in Royal Hospital Road, London.

He will be opening the casual Bread Street Kitchen here, a concept that he also recently opened in Hong Kong's Lan Kwai Fong suburb. The original London restaurant is located in Bread Street near St Paul's Cathedral.

The Singapore eatery's interior will have an industrial warehouse theme and feature a British-European menu.

If the London restaurant's menu is anything to go by, dishes will range from classic English ones to ricotta hotcakes, ceviches and beef short rib burgers.

Ramsay says: "The further expansion into Asia is an exciting move for us and will see our successful London concepts being transferred and tailored to this new market."

However, he is reportedly embroiled in a US$10-million (S$12.6-million) lawsuit with former business partner Rowen Seibel over now-shuttered restaurants in the United States.

He is the latest in a list of celebrity chefs who have also opened at MBS, including United States-based chefs Daniel Boulud of db Bistro Moderne and Wolfgang Puck of the steakhouse Cut.

The integrated resort's president and chief executive George Tanasijevich says: "We are looking forward to our new partnership with Gordon. He has an outstanding track record in his many different restaurant concepts and business enterprises.

"We believe his Bread Street Kitchen is the ideal concept for Marina Bay Sands as it will strengthen the world-class dining options that our visitors have come to expect from us."

Other internationally acclaimed chefs who have restaurants in Singapore include Michelin-starred French chef Joel Robuchon, who has two restaurants at Resorts World Sentosa; American chef Cat Cora of Ocean Restaurant, also at Resorts World; and Ramsay's former executive chef of Maze restaurants worldwide, Jason Atherton of London restaurant Pollen Street Social.

Atherton co-owns several restaurants and bars here including Pollen in the Flower Dome at Gardens by the Bay and trendy tapas bar Esquina in Jiak Chuan Road.

Ramsay, who is known for popular television shows such as Hell's Kitchen, Kitchen Nightmares and MasterChef USA, has a huge fan base in Singapore.

The notoriously foul-mouthed chef was in town last July for the SingTel Hawker Heroes challenge, where he pitted his culinary prowess against three local hawkers of well-known stalls including Tian Tian Chicken Rice and 328 Katong Laksa.

About 5,000 fans mobbed him at Maxwell and Newton food centres, many showing up just to catch a glimpse of him.
